I’ve always been into gaming, but I never thought it would become part of my Army experience.
While I was stationed in South Korea for a year, I spent a lot of my free time playing Halo. After work, I’d usually hop online with friends or grind ranked matches. The competition kept me coming back, and over time I got pretty good at the game.
Then I heard about the Army Esports Halo team holding tryouts. I figured I had nothing to lose, so I signed up. I went into it just hoping to do well, but after the tryouts I found out I had made the main roster.
Getting selected was an awesome feeling. It gave me the chance to represent the Army in Halo competitions against the other military branches. It was a different kind of competition than what I was used to in the military, but it still required teamwork, communication, and staying calm under pressure.
Looking back, being part of the Army Esports team is one of my favorite memories from my time in service. It was proof that a hobby I’d loved for years could turn into something much bigger. I met some great people, played at a high level, and had the opportunity to wear the Army name while doing something I genuinely enjoyed.
